John William Smith

John William Smith Jr., age 83, formerly of McLeansboro, Illinois & Mascoutah, Illinois, passed away at 4:55 am on Friday, July 29th, 2016 in Hillsboro, Oregon.

John William Smith Jr. was born on September 18th, 1932 in Dale, Illinois to his parents John William Smith & Edith (McGill) Smith.

He owned and operated a sewing machine sales & repair business, and was a school bus driver for 25 years with the Mascoutah School District.

He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by both parents John William Smith & Edith (McGill) Smith, and a brother Robert Smith.

He is survived by his wife Frances Smith of Hillsboro, Oregon; a daughter Karleen Smith of Hillsboro, Oregon; a son Jay William (wife Cindy) Smith of Houston, Texas, 8 grandchildren: Jay William “Bill” Smith II, Anantasia Cantu, Nathaniel Cantu, Christina Cantu, Jennifer Windham, Michael Schmidt, Jeanie Allen, Jeffrey Allen; and several great grand children also survive.

Graveside services for John William Smith Jr. will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016 at Smith Cemetery near Dale, Illinois with Rev. Robert Sefried officiating.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am Wednesday until the time of service at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #106 and the Honor Guard from Marion, Illinois.

The Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of the arrangements.
