Zella Mae Gibbs

Zella Mae Gibbs, age of 89, of McLeansboro, IL passed away at 2:04 pm on Monday, September 26th, 2016 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon IL.

She was born April 24th, 1927 in Hamilton County, IL - the Daughter of Eddie and Mary (Manier) Smith.

She worked as a seamstress at the former Elder Mfg. company in Mcleansboro, the laundry department at Mcleansboro Health Care, and was a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church.

She married Merril Lee Gibbs on Sept 7, 1946.

Zella was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, daughter-in-law Catheline Gibbs, brothers: Bill, Ralph, Lewis & Aden Smith, Sisters:  Lizzie Hart & Anna Hale.

Zella is survived by 2 sons: Gary Gibbs of Opdyke IL & Donald (wife Becky) Gibbs of Wayne City IL.; 1 Daughter Brenda (Husband John) McPeak of McLeansboro, 10 grandchildren: Genette (Kevin) Murphy, Trent McPeak, Jonelle (James) Joiner, Stephanie McGee, Stacie (Aaron) Woodrome, Conan (Danielle) Gibbs, J.K.Davolt, Donald Gibbs-Davolt, Merrilee Gibbs-Davolt, and Kristin (Laythan) Musgrave; 19 great grandchildren: Haylee, Tristan, Alyssa, Emalee & Weslee McPeak, Jordyn & Taylor Joiner, Mikayla Ford, Kayden McGee, Preston, Aiden and Braxton Woodrome, Ethan, Anna, and Abby Gibbs, Heath Murphy, and Gracie, Hallie & Owen Musgrave; 1 Great Great Grandson Luke Short; 3 Sister-in-Laws: Katherine (Don) McRoy, Wilma Rose Smith and Rosemary Gibbs, also several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1;00 pm on Thursday, September 29th, 2016 at Blooming Grove Baptist Church near McLeansboro with Rev. Gary Davenport officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am Thursday until the time of service at 1:00 pm at the church.

Gholson Funeral Home in Mcleansboro is in charge of the arrangements.
