Grover Morphis

Grover Morphis, 93, of Watson, formerly of Bible Grove and McLeansboro, IL, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his loving family. 

Grover was born on November 23, 1926 in Bearden, OK, the son of George W. and Lola M. 
(Johnston) Morphis. He married Thelma A. Ray on September 4, 1948, and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2000.

Grover served his country in the United States Army from 1945-1947. He was a life-long oil field worker and construction worker. Grover enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, and reading and watching old westerns. He was a gentle human being who loved his family.

Grover is survived by his daughters, Linda Gordon of Shelbyville and Donna (Jerry) Roberts of Watson; grandchildren, Crystal (Mike) Foreman, Christopher Backs, Jeremiah (Shannon) Roberts, and Jesse (Jeremy) Patnaude; great-grandchildren, Greyson Foreman, Rowyn Foreman, Kennedy Backs, Kameron Roberts, Hadley Roberts, Brooklyn Roberts, Brady Patnaude, and Miles Patnaude; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Owen (Bonnie) Morphis and Hugh Morphis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma; infant son, Billie Glen Morphis, son-in-law, Jeff Gordon; sisters, Kathleen, Geneva, and Virginia; and special friend, Lois Smith.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial with military rites will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro, IL. 

Arrangements are in the care of Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
