Alice May (Meyer) Gunter

Alice May (Meyer) Gunter, 89, of McLeansboro, IL passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.  Alice was born on February 23, 1936 in Parsippany, NJ to Henry & Elizabeth (Swartz) Meyer.

She had previously worked as a Cook at several local nursing homes.  She loved her cats, and she enjoyed spending time with her friends & neighbors at her apartment building.  She enjoyed attending church services at the Dahlgren Baptist Church in Dahlgren, where she was a member.

Alice is survived by her daughter Kathy Bible & significant other Rick of Iuka, IL; daughter Beverly Atkinson & husband Teddy of McLeansboro, son Robert Gunter & significant other Rhonda of South Carolina, 4 grandchildren: Casey, Amanda, Kyle, and Dylan; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Donald Gunter of McLeansboro, brother-in-law Daniel Gunter & wife Marline of Springerton, IL; sister-in-law Janet Veteto & significant other Noel of McLeansboro, brother-in-law Fred Gunter & significant other Penny of McLeansboro, sister-in-law Ruby Everett of McLeansboro, and brother-in-law David Gunter & significant other Betty of McLeansboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry & Elizabeth Meyer, first husband James Johnson, second husband Charles Gwaltney, third husband Ed Gunter, father-in-law & mother-in-law Charles & Frieda Gunter, brother-in-law Charles Everett, and 3 sisters-in-law: Barbara Johnson, Rita Gunter, and Brenda Gunter.

Funeral services for Alice May (Meyer) Gunter will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, IL with Pastor Brad Sloan officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
