Betty J. Moore, 85, of McLeansboro, Illinois, passed away at 10:50 p.m. in Carmi, Illinois on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Born April 14, 1935 to Thurman and Josephine (Bequeret) Thomas, she later married Thomas W. Egbert (deceased) and to that union was born two sons: Thomas Jr. (deceased) and Vernon (Robbin) Egbert of Cahokia, IL. On February 27, 1987 she married Richard Moore and helped him raise his three children: Bryce (Jennifer) Moore of Highland, IL, Patricia (Carl) Handel of Rockwood, IL and Karen (Travis) Keenan of St. Peters, MO. Betty was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Samuel, Joshua, Elijah and Nathan Moore, Jessica and Jacob Handel and Luke and Seth Keenan. Also surviving are two sisters: Josephine Champ and Sandy Talbert.
Betty was a loving and caring soul who enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with family and friends. An active member of the Blooming Grove Missionary Baptist Church, she was a passionate participant in the Women’s Missionary Union and the Auxiliary of the local Gideon’s Camp.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Blooming Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bill Miller officiating. Those attending the service are asked to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
