Billy Gene Guthrie

Billy Gene Guthrie, 74, of McLeansboro, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 20, 2023 with his family by his side. 

He was born March 25, 1949 in Eldorado, the son of Dale and Golda (Hoy) Guthrie.  On August 12, 1972, he married Judy (Nolan) Guthrie, who survives.  Billy had retired from CSX Railroad where he worked as a machine operator.  He also had worked as a transporter for Verano/Ataraxia.

Billy is survived by his wife: Judy Guthrie of McLeansboro; two daughters: Billie (Branch) Caldwell of Fairfield and Kellie Jackson of McLeansboro; five grandchildren: Sarah Wilcox, Rachael Walker, Jillian Jackson, Hunter Jackson, and Kori Caldwell; two sisters: Brenda (Tom) Stacy of Wilmington, IL and Tina Bergman of Carmi; one brother: Perry Guthrie of Wilmington, IL; special niece: Wendy Cannon of Dix and several nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Dale and Golda Guthrie, infant sister: Paulette Guthrie; brother-in-law: Sid Bergman; and sister-in-law: Cathy Guthrie.

There will be no formal services for Billy Gene Guthrie.  In lieu of flowers, cards may be mailed to Judy Guthrie at 15826 County Road 1000E in McLeansboro.
