Bonnie Harrison Obituary

Bonnie Sue (Link) Harrison, born on October 19, 1926, passed away on October 7, 2020, and will be deeply missed. She was raised in Twigg Township in Hamilton County, IL, by Elton and Delta (Brownlee) Link, and attended Little Springs Primitive Baptist Church.Bonnie Sue graduated from McLeansboro Illinois High School. After graduation, her continued education included a BS in education from the Chicago Teacher’s College, and an MS in education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Bonnie Sue Link married Vaughan D Harrison on April 24, 1946 in Morganfield, KY.

Bonnie was a lifetime educator. She spent 33 years molding young minds through elementary education in Illinois. After retirement, she and Vaughan headed to the warmer climates of Florida and Texas, where Bonnie Sue added several more years of teaching adventures. She enjoyed time with children, being ever eager to share fun idea or activity. She cherished time with her grandchildren Jennifer, Jonathan, and Sarah, along with her precious great-grandchildren, Harrison Link, Halle Lynn, Audrey Lynn, Jon Irvin, and Ruby Gayle. Nieces and nephews also held a special place in Bonnie’s heart, and she made sure to keep in touch with them as they grew into their own journeys.

Bonnie Sue was known for her love of travel and her generosity for sharing her adventures with friends and family, particularly beautiful and historic sites in North America and Europe. Throughout her long life, she planned many trips with loved ones, hoping all would enjoy learning about a new part of the world. Bonnie greatly enjoyed the outdoors and the last few years delighted in being able to spend time contemplating world issues on her porch. She encouraged conservation, protected diversity, and promoted involvement and knowledge in current events. There was always a current event of interest that she was ready to discuss, and, oh how Bonnie loved a good debate! She often contributed to nature funds and funds of welfare for disadvantaged people in America and third world countries. She was a devoted member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Marion, IL.

Bonnie was preceded in passing by her husband Vaughan D Harrison, her brothers John Robert Link (Ruth) and Jack Elton Link (Peggy). She is survived by her sister Anita (Link) Miller, her daughters Donna Sue Steward and Rebecca Lynn Harrison. She was also blessed with three grandchildren: Jennifer (Ryan) Rice, Jonathan (Lori) Steward, and Sarah Mabed, and five great-grandchildren: Harrison & Halle Rice, Audrey Collins, and Jon & Ruby Steward.
