Brian Scott Gunter, 51, of Mt, Vernon, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 19, 2023.
He was born July 5, 1972 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Daniel and the late Rita Ann (Upchurch) Gunter.
Brian worked in the kitchen at the Double Overtime Grill in the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Mt. Vernon. He enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics and made many great friends during his involvement. He played basketball and enjoyed bowling. Brian was a people person who enjoyed shopping, spending fun weekends at his sister's house, and spending quality time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his father: Daniel (Marline) Gunter of McLeansboro, sister: Jacklyn Dukes of McLeansboro, two nephews: Justin (Danielle) Branch and Logan Dukes, both of McLeansboro, one niece: Keisha (Dave) Incer of McLeansboro, caretaker and trusted friend: Jennifer Golluday of Mt. Vernon, and four great nephews. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Brian was preceded in death by his mother: Rita Ann Gunter, paternal and maternal grandparents, infant brother James Daniel Gunter, and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services for Brian Scott Gunter will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the First General Baptist Church of McLeansboro with Pastor Barry Steed officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service at Union Cemetery near Dahlgren.
