Carolyn Sue Johnson

Carolyn Sue Johnson, 79, of McLeansboro, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.  She was born in McLeansboro on September 19, 1943, the daughter of Russell and Faye (Reed) Sandusky.  On November 4, 1960, she married Paul Johnson, who survives.

She worked as a food service supervisor at McLeansboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation for 34 years. Carolyn also worked for Elder Manufacturing and Montgomery Ward, both in McLeansboro. She loved flower gardening, shopping, decorating her home, working with and helping the elderly, and taking care of her grandson and great-grandson.  She was a member of the First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro.

Carolyn is survived by her husband: Paul Johnson of McLeansboro; grandson: Brian Cole Johnson of Belle Rive; great-grandson: Logan Lee Johnson of Belle Rive; two sisters-in-law: Jane Sandusky of Hoodville and Ruth (Doyce) Sheraden of Carmi; two brothers-in-law: Jerry (Nancy) Johnson of McLeansboro and Robert (Susan) Johnson of Thompsonville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Russell and Faye Sandusky; her son: Brian Eugene Johnson; her brother: Ronnie Sandusky; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Eugene and Bernice Johnson.

Funeral services for Carolyn Sue Johnson will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro.
