Dalton Knight Obituary

Dalton Eugene Knight, 79, of McLeansboro, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2020 at his home in rural McLeansboro.

He was born January 8, 1940, the ninth of eleven children, to Angus and Mabel Knight. He married Margaret McGill on February 13, 1965.

Dalton served our country in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. Upon marrying Margaret he joined his father-in-law raising black angus cattle and farming on Fair Acre Farm. He farmed with his wife and children until he retired in 2011.

Dalton loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his world. He enjoyed bluegrass music, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and McLeansboro Foxes basketball. He and Margaret rarely missed a Foxes basketball game. They especially liked going to the Lady Foxes basketball and volleyball games. Another favorite pastime was following his niece's gospel group, The Muehlenbeins. He loved listening to them sing. Dalton was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.

Dalton also served on the Hamilton County Farm Bureau Board and the Hamilton County Telephone Board for many years.

Along with his wife, Margaret, Dalton is survived by two daughters and one son: Tonyia (Mike) Neal, Teresa (Larry) Bayler, and Jamie (Stephanie) Knight. His grandchildren: Zack (Cady) Bayler, Shelby (Dylan) White, Faith, Nevaeh, and Andrew Knight. His great-grandchildren: Zoe and Zane Bayler. And seven brothers and sisters: J.M. ( Geraldine) Knight, Fay (Ron) Lee, Frances Branch, Pat Harrawood, David (Sharon) Knight, Donna Young, and Victor (Janet) Knight. And many special friends he felt were family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in-law, brothers Wayne and Marshall, sister Lois, brother in-laws Junior Smith, Eulan Branch and Don Harrawood, sisters-in-law Dorthy Knight and Deloris Knight, nephews Aaron Branch, John Knight, Steve Knight, and Eddie Smith .
