Dorothy Mae (Benson) Borne

Dorothy Mae (Benson) Borne, 88, of Broughton, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at her home.  Dorothy was born on December 7, 1936 in Fouke, Arkansas to William “Bryant” Benson & Rosa Josie (Harrin) Benson.  On October 19, 1955 she married Elmo John Borne, who preceded her in death in 2006.

Dorothy worked as an apartment manager and also as an in-home caregiver.  She was very active in the former Broughton Pentecostal Church.  She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and cooking.  She loved being a mother and raising her children.  She also adopted and raised 3 of her great-grandchildren.  She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time together with them.

Dorothy is survived by 4 children: daughter Patricia Kendall & husband Sonny, son Elmo “Joe” Borne & wife Samantha, son Darien Borne & wife Josephine, and daughter Donna Trusty & husband Ron; 3 adopted daughters: Makayla Borne, Kiera Borne, and Kendra Borne; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bryant & Rosa Benson, her husband Elmo John Borne, infant son Donald Borne, 6 siblings, and a grandson Michael Borne.

Funeral services for Dorothy Mae (Benson) Borne will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 at Gholson Funeral Home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Gholson Cemetery in Broughton, IL.
