Everett Deon Carr

Everett “Deon” Carr, 82, of Carmi, IL passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, IL.  He was born on October 21, 1943 in McLeansboro to George Colene Carr & Myrtle (Jacobs) Carr.  On January 9, 1965 he married Naomi Ruth (Rankin) Carr, who preceded him in death on January 26, 2015.

Deon worked as a welder for Joy Manufacturing in Mt. Vernon, IL.  He was an avid firearm and knife collector.  He also enjoyed fishing, going to casinos, and working on cars.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Deon is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Larry) Pretz of Harrisburg, IL; his son Bryce Carr of McLeansboro, IL; 4 grandchildren: John Cole of Harrisburg, IL; Christina Cole of Mt. Vernon, IL; Kyle (Danielle) Rankin of Mt. Vernon, IL; and Alex (Priscilla) Blessing of Elkville, IL; 10 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and his neighbor and “best buddy” Ruth Weaver of Carmi, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents George & Myrtle Carr, his wife Naomi Ruth Carr, his son Keith Rankin, his grandson Michael Cole, and his brother Bob Carr.

Funeral services for Everett “Deon” Carr will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL with Reverend Dr. Ken Cook officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Springer Cemetery in Beaver Creek Township in Hamilton County, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to assist with final expenses may be made to Gholson Funeral Home, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
