Gilbert Lewman Austin

Gilbert Lewman Austin, 71, of Ridgway, IL passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at his home in Ridgway.  Gilbert was born on June 8, 1954 to Edward & Barb Austin.

Gilbert was an oil field worker, and he enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors, and collecting model vehicles.

He is survived by a daughter Lena Hicks of Norris City, IL; a son Derek Austin of Enfield, IL; 4 grandchildren: Darian McClelland, Abraham McClelland, Bella Hankins, and Jude Hicks; 2 sisters: Diana (Stanley) Mayberry of Norris City, IL and Virginia Wheeler of Benton, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Barb Austin.

A memorial visitation for Gilbert Lewman Austin will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL.  At 1:00 p.m., those attending will be dismissed to follow the procession to Gholson Cemetery south of Broughton, IL for graveside burial of ashes and military honors by the McLeansboro American Legion Post #106 and the Decatur Military Funeral Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wabash Area Development, Inc. and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
