James Norman “Mitch” Mitchell was born at the old Rogers place in Hamilton County, Illinois on October 9, 1941. A resident of Mt. Vernon, IL, he departed this life on April 19, 2018 at 2:20 p.m. at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.
He was the son of Robert Raymond and Alice Mabel (Klinker) Mitchell. Mitch worked at Precision National/ National Railway for over 36 years. He was baptized at the Mt. Vernon Old Union Church by Rev. Maurice Paxton. Mitch was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two sons: James Darren Mitchell of Texico, IL and Alan Vern Mitchell of Dix, IL; two grandchildren: Zachary and Makayla Mitchell; one sister, Audre Nadine Bunting of Mt. Vernon, IL, and his special friend, Margrete Hines of Mt. Vernon, IL.
Graveside funeral services for James Norman “Mitch” Mitchell will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery near Dahlgren with Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Raymond Mitchell who was born April 3, 1911; his mother, Alice Mabel (Klinker) Mitchell who was born June 25, 1911; one sister, Doris Roberta Mitchell Baker who was born September 8, 1943; and one brother, Lowell Eugene Mitchell who was born in 1932.
The pallbearers, along with honorary pallbearer Jim Parkhill, will carry James Norman “Mitch” Mitchell to his final resting place.
