John Walter Williams

John Walter Williams, 87, a resident of Enfield, IL passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL.

John was born February 13, 1934 in Buzzard Roost, IL to Walter Lee Williams and Rosa Leota (Page) Williams.  On December 19, 1959 he married Karen Gene (Keiger) Williams, who survives.

John was a farmer, who began farming in 1963.  He also worked for the Vernois Stove Foundry in Mt. Vernon, IL for 16 years.  John was a U.S. Military Veteran, who served in the U.S. Army 10th Infantry Division.  He enjoyed hosting & attending horse pulls, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was of the Baptist faith.

John is survived by his wife Karen Gene Williams of Enfield, a son John Martin (Hope) Williams of McLeansboro, a daughter Myra (Jim) Barrow of Evansville, IN; 7 grandchildren: Amy (Chris) Evans, Justin (Amanda) Williams, Samantha (Cory) Lotz, Nicholas Peak, Noah Peak, Michaela (Jonathan) Wharton, and Benjamin Scattone.  He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Davis Evans, Brilynn Evans, Braxton Wheeler, Aurellia Williams, Joseph Williams, Benson Williams, and Owen Jaeger, a brother Ronald Leon (Madonna) Williams of Oakdale, IL; a sister-in-law Gayla Walker of Mulkeytown, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents and 3 sisters.

Funeral Services for John Walter Williams will be held at 10 am on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL with Pastor Larry Woodrow officiating.  Visitation will be held from 4 pm - 8 pm on Thursday, August 5 at Gholson Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Enfield Village Cemetery in Enfield, IL with graveside military rites conducted by the Carmi American Legion Post #224 and the Illinois Army National Guard Honors Team of Marion, IL.  

Memorials may be made to the Enfield Blue Ribbon 4H Club and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
