Joseph H. Grewe, 90, formerly of Dahlgren, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Lavender Ridge Dignified Memory Care in Mt.Vernon.
He was born July 28, 1927 in Dahlgren, IL to Frederick “Fred” and Catherine “Katie” (Wuebbels) Grewe. Joseph was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a retired farmer and oil field worker and was a member of the St. Clements Catholic Church in McLeansboro and American Legion Post 106.
Joseph is survived by two sons: Rodney (Darlene) Grewe of Marionville, MO and Alan (Christa) Grewe of Greenville, KY; four daughters: Pam (Raymond) Ward of Mt. Carmel, IL, Brenda Wagner of Dahlgren, IL, Ellen Kay (Jim) Hayes of Woodlawn, IL and Amy (Jeff) Drews of Christiana, TN; one brother: Edward (Betty) Grewe of Mt. Carmel, IL; and two sisters: Elizabeth Rapp of Belle Rive, IL and Mary Karcher of Dahlgren, IL. Nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren with Fr. Slawomir Ptak conducting the Funeral Mass. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. He will be laid to rest at the St. Johns Cemetery in Dahlgren with Graveside Military Honors performed by American Legion Post 106 and a U.S. Army Honors Team from Marion, IL
