Joycelyn (Pickett) Cockrum

Our wonderful Mom, Joycelyn Cockrum, 86, (known to many as “Grandma Joyce”) of Dahlgren, IL passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 2:40 a.m. surrounded by her children at SSM Health Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Joycelyn was born on June 21, 1938 in Chicago Heights, IL to Onnie Franklin “Jay” Pickett & M. Berniece (Whittington) Pickett.  On May 14, 1958 she married Weaver Lincoln “Tiny” Cockrum, who preceded her in death on December 30, 1996.

She spent her life caring for her family.  They were her pride and joy.

She was Mom to 2 daughters: Judi Lynn Cockrum and Paula (Lewis) Gage, both of Dahlgren, IL; and a son William David “Bill” (LeeAnn) Cockrum of Mt. Vernon, IL.  She was Grandma to: Lemuel (Shellie) Gage, Mindy Neal (and fiancé Justin Hase), Levi (Maranda) Gage, Mekayla (Darren) Topping, Cody (Sicely) Cockrum, Madison (Clint) Richards, and Sawyer Lusby.  She was Great Grandma to: Darian; Landree and Clay Gage; Lexy Neal; Weston Gage; Layton, Josilyn, and baby Topping, and Penelope Cockrum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, and an infant great grandchild.

Funeral services for Joycelyn Cockrum will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, IL with Pastor John Hefner officiating.  Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Hope Cemetery in Ina, IL.
