Larry Keith Madison, 79, of Columbia, MO passed away on August 8, 2021 at The Neighborhoods by TigerPlace skilled nursing care in Columbia, MO following a long battle for several years with Parkinson’s disease, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Larry was born in Alton, IL on December 31, 1943 to his parents Wayne Keith Madison and Helen Madge (Hise) Madison. Larry worked as the Maintenance Manager for the Walt Disney World Polynesian Resort for over 30 years, and participated in the construction of the resort when it was first built. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served overseas during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He also was a former member of the VFW Post #5900 in Marble Hill, IL. Larry was a hard worker, a good man, and a good friend.
Larry is survived by his wife Run Madison of Clermont, FL; a son Michael Madison of Naples, FL; 2 grandchildren: Mackenzie Madison & fiancé Tyler Stone, and Michael Madison of Naples, FL; several cousins, who he called “the best cousins in the world”, several nephews, and lifelong friend Sharon (Key) Emery, who was by his side when he passed.
He was preceded in death by both parents, 2 sisters: Sandra Harrington & Linda Greer, and a special cousin Hazel Peterson.
Funeral Services for Larry Keith Madison will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Mt. Olivet General Baptist Church in McLeansboro, IL with Pastor Bennie Webb officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #106 of McLeansboro and the Illinois Army National Guard Honors Team of Marion, IL.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, and will be accepted at the church or at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
