Leah Murphy, 106, of Dahlgren, IL passed away on June 15, 2021 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL.
She was born on May 10, 1915 in rural Dahlgren to Elmer & Lina (Brim) Scrivner. On June 26, 1937, at her parents’ home in Dahlgren, she married Ray Murphy Sr., who preceded her in death in 1994.
Leah was a homemaker, and was a member of the Home Bureau Club. She was also a member of the Delafield Baptist Church and previously attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dahlgren, which is now closed. She loved to play Pinochle, she enjoyed reading every day, and playing with her grandkids. She was also very involved in church activities. When she was younger, she enjoyed making beautiful quilts, tending to a large garden, and canning food. For over 20 years, she and her husband Ray enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing on the Tennessee River.
Leah is survived by 2 daughters: Patricia (Gordon) Page of Dahlgren and Judy (Lavern) Peters of Dahlgren, 8 grandchildren: Steve (Lori) Page, Pam (Len) Ridings, Mike (Lea) Page, Brad (Kim) Peters, Cheryl (Tony) Swafford, Cory Murphy, Troy Murphy (fiancé Mandi), and Jason Murphy (and friend Suzanne). She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Ray Murphy Sr., a son Ray Murphy Jr., and 3 brothers: Charles Scrivner, Paul Scrivner, and Erscle Scrivner.
Funeral services for Leah Murphy will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, IL with Rev. Bob Dietz officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 PM - 8 PM on Friday, June 18 at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dahlgren.
