Matilda Miller

Matilda Jane Miller, 86, of Dahlgren, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Hamilton Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in McLeansboro, IL.

Matilda was born January 14, 1936 in Dahlgren, IL to Charles Augustine Karcher & Agatha Christine (Kaufmann) Karcher.  On November 14, 1966 she married Richard Charles Miller, who preceded her in death in 1999.

Matilda was a home maker, and she enjoyed crafting, sewing, gardening, and cooking.  She loved talking on the phone with her friends and family and visiting with them in person.  She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis, IL and formerly was a member of the Parish Council and the Altar Sodality.  She was a member of the Hamilton County Home Extension for over 50 years.  She always helped organize bus trips for group events for the groups she belonged to.

Matilda is survived by a son Roger (Melissa) Miller of Florissant, MO; a grandson Hayden Miller of Lenexa, KS; a granddaughter Gwendolyn Miller of Florissant, MO; and a grandson Bryndan Miller of Florissant, MO.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by both parens, her husband Richard Charles Miller, 2 sisters: Lorene Aydt and Norma Collins, and a brother Howard Karcher, who was killed in action while serving in the U.S. Military in Korea.

A Funeral Mass for Matilda Jane Miller will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis, IL with Father Slawomir Ptak officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, IL with a recitation of the Rosary being held at 7:00 pm.  Interment will take place immediately after the funeral at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Piopolis.  Memorials may be made to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the Church or at Gholson Funeral Home.
