Patricia Sue Smith

84 year old Patricia Sue (Carr) Smith of McLeansboro, IL, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Hamilton Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in McLeansboro.

She was born March 21, 1935 to Floyd E. and Ione P. (Epperson) Carr.  She married Ralph Manuel Smith on July 13, 1973.  He preceded her in death on May 3, 2016.  

Pat worked at Elders Shirt Factory in McLeansboro for 18 years as a seamstress until their closing and then worked at Dowser Electric in Mt. Vernon, IL where she assembled electrical transformers for 25 years.

Pat loved being outdoors in the sunshine, gardening and taking long walks.  She was a life long member of the Delafield Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, Sandra (Jeff) Bullock of Dahlgren, IL, Susan (Dennis) Friedman and Charles “Chuck” Wheeler, both of McLeansboro. One sister, Lois South of Enfield, IL and one brother, Ronnie Carr of Mt. Vernon. IL.  Seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and a great granddaughter, Hattie Jean Gray.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

A private family memorial service took place on Thursday, July 13, 2023, which would have been Patricia and Ralph's 50th Wedding Anniversary.  The family laid her ashes to rest next to her husband, Ralph, in the Veteran's section of IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
