Richard Allen Ragan

Richard Allen Ragan, 82, of Wayne City, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at his home.

He was born April 11, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Van Allen & Kathryn (Church) Ragan.  On February 8, 1975, he married Margaret Lona Trausch, who survives.

Richard was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He had worked as a general laborer.  He loved playing horseshoes, and traveled to various places to play in horseshoe tournaments.  He enjoyed gardening, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Ragan, sisters Marilyn Coleman and Marla Ragan, brothers David Joe Ragan and Jack Ragan, and his step-daughter Carol Ann Smith.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Van Allen & Kathryn Ragan, brother Charles Devan Ragan, sister Jean Brown, brothers Morris Ford and Jim Ray Lockwood, and daughter Teresa Terry.

Graveside funeral services for Richard Allen Ragan will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Piopolis at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Craig Smith officiating. A public visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.  Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.
