Ruby Charlene Maurer, 85, of Dahlgren, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Silver Foxes Senior Living and Rehabilitation in McLeansboro.
She was born on June 14, 1939 in Decatur to Raymond Oliver Dyer, Sr. and Edna Jewel Dyer. On February 28, 1959, she married Michael Ray Maurer, who preceded her in death in 2023.
Charlene had worked as an Assistant Director of a daycare center in Decatur for many years. She was a member of the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive. She and Michael enjoyed rejoicing through music at their church. He played the banjo and mandolin, and she played the piano and organ for the church until the age of 78. She loved teaching kids how to play music, and enjoyed her years of fellowship with her church family.
Charlene is survived by her son John Maurer, and wife Susan, of Dahlgren, two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and her brother Raymond Oliver Dyer, Jr., of Lovington, IL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael Ray Maurer, son Alan Scott Maurer, daughter Rhonda Michelle Choate, and sister Julia Brosend.
Funeral services for Charlene Maurer will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with Pastor Jeremy Hamson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Richardson Hill Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
