Teddy “Ted” J. Mitchell, 89, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at his home in McLeansboro, Illinois.
He was born August 3, 1931 in McLeansboro, IL to William and Julia (Harrelson) Mitchell. Ted married Kathryn Tuggle on May 14, 1950 and she survives. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. After serving his country Ted worked as a school bus driver for many years, served as a Pastor of the Bible Church and was a devoted member of Ten Mile Baptist Church.
Ted is survived by his wife Kathryn Mitchell of McLeansboro, IL; son William “Bill” and wife Kathy Mitchell of McLeansboro, IL; daughters Beverly and husband Mike Husman of Eldersberg, MD and Vickie and husband John Lindstrom of Tempe, AZ; nine grandchildren: Stacy and husband Matthew Thompson, Stephanie and husband Tim Wenz, Jill and husband Bryce Callihan, Crystal and husband Denis Ryan, Lois and husband Jerrod Vaupel, Jessica Husman, Lori Mitchell and Daniel and Kathryn Lindstrom; brother Don Mitchell of Paducah, KY and sister Mary Cluck of McLeansboro, IL. Fifteen great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Nadine Duay and Vada Willis; and three brothers: Bob, Bill and Tom Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Ten Mile Baptist Church with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, November 28 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at Ten Mile Baptist Church. Ted will be laid to rest at Ten Mile Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors performed by American Legion Post 106 and a U.S. Army Military Honors Team. Per CDC guidelines masks will be required and social distancing will be observed.
Memorial donations may be made to the MDS Foundation and will be accepted at Ten Mile Church or the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro which has been entrusted with arrangements.
