Virginia Yvonne (Springer) Preston

Virginia Yvonne (Springer) Preston, 82, of Mill Shoals, IL passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL.  Virginia was born on March 24, 1941 to Rural & Ruby (Etienne) Springer.

Virginia worked as a cook at Booth School in Enfield, IL and also worked at the shirt factory in Enfield, and retired from Champion Labs in Albion, IL.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Enfield for many years.

She loved flower gardening, watching hummingbirds, and watching NASCAR races and NCIS.  She enjoyed smoking while drinking coffee and Dr. Pepper, and she loved to entertain her grandson “Peanut”.

Virginia is survived by 3 daughters: Penny Nipper of Acworth, GA; Jeannette (Val) Gass  of McLeansboro, IL and Yvette (Gregg) Henager of Mt. Carmel, IL; a son Kent (Bekah) Preston of Mill Shoals, IL; 7 grandchildren: Donnie (Brooke) Nipper, Ashley (Elliot) Nipper, Bobby (Bailey) Gass, Danielle (Bob) Trapp, Kylee (Brady) Brown, Sadie “Bug” Preston and Lincoln “Peanut” Preston; 16 great grandchildren: Kyle Nipper, Jordan Nipper, Landon Nipper, Emelia Nipper, Jacob Weeks, Donnie Nipper Jr., Chase Nipper, Kaden Nipper, Joyelle Harding, Boone Gass, Buckley Gass, Isaac Trapp, Jason Trapp, Wesley Trapp, Willow Brown, and Mia Brown; and 2 great granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rural & Ruby Springer, her husband Donald Preston, a brother Walter “Shorty” Springer, a sister Dorothy Candey, mother-in-law & father-in-law Gertie & Ralph Preston, 2 grandchildren: Rickey Joe Nipper Jr. and Tawni Jo Henager, and a son-in-law Rickey Joe Nipper Sr.

Funeral services for Virginia Yvonne (Springer) Preston will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, IL with Bro. Kenny Wilson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Old Springer Cemetery in Blairsville, IL.
