Effie Berniece (Hamilton) Tevebaugh

May 8, 1921 ~ August 24, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Effie Berniece Hamilton Tevebaugh, 95, went to be with the Lord at 4:08 pm on August 24th, 2016 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Born on Mother’s Day, May 8th, 1921 in McLeansboro, IL, Effie was the daughter of Warner Floyd and Ida Gertrude Renfrow Hamilton.

Effie married Lawrence Ray Bridwell in 1940. Together they had a daughter, Barbara Ann. Lawrence Ray died in 1944. In 1947 Effie married James Covey Tevebaugh. Effie and Jim had 2 children, Carolyn Jo and James Leon. Jim died in 1976.

Effie’s unwavering faith and positive outlook, particularly when faced with heartache, were inspirational. Always cheerful, her attitude was contagious. She was a woman of courage and immeasurable strength.  Effie was a devoted and lifelong member of First Baptist Church of McLeansboro.

Surviving Effie are her son, Jim (Laura) Tevebaugh of Austin, Texas, sister Anna Lee Cox of Cumming, Georgia and brother Charles Hamilton of Lincoln, IL, grandchildren Scott McRill, Jamie and Brian Phillips, Katherine (Tevebaugh) Davis and Sarah Tevebaugh, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Effie in death were her parents, daughters Barbara Ann McRill and Carolyn Jo Phillips, grandson Greg Alan McRill, brothers Sam and Tom Hamilton and sisters Mary Katherine Little and Helen Haynes.

A very special thank you to friends and family for their love and care of Effie when family was not close by.

Effie will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Effie Berniece Tevebaugh will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with Rev. Mark Byars officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, August 26th at the Gholson Funeral Home.

Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.

Donations to the church will also be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, which is in charge of the arrangements.
